Trudeau tested positive for the virus four days after meeting Biden during the Summit of the Americas last week. The two leaders embraced during a greeting ceremony at the opening of the Los Angeles summit and held a nearly hourlong bilateral meeting the following day.
Biden’s press secretary insisted the president had not been a “close contact,” which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines as someone who was less than 6 feet away from an infected person “for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period.”

“If he were a close contact as defined by the CDC, we would update his testing cadence accordingly and share that with you transparently,” Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Thursday. “His testing cadence has not changed.”
Jean-Pierre would not provide a date when the president was last tested for the coronavirus, referring simply to a “regular weekly cadence.”
Biden is tested once a week and more frequently if he travels, she said. “I just don’t have a day in front of you of when he was last tested.”

Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra and California Rep. Maxine Waters also tested positive for COVID-19 days after attending the summit, with Becerra testing positive for the second time this month. Anthony Fauci, the federal government’s top infectious disease expert and a White House COVID-19 adviser, tested positive on Wednesday.
