The Dinger controversy has plagued the Colorado Rockies this week. A man was falsely accused of yelling a racial slur. “Woke” employees of the organization rushed to judgment after mishearing the fan. As we now live in an era of MLB name changes, I propose the Colorado Rockies be the latest MLB franchise to change its name. One suggestion: the Colorado Jussie Smolletts.
The Colorado Jussie Smolletts would signify a proud representation of the latest trend by the MLB of finding racism where it simply does not exist. And, after the latest controversy over the team mascot, the name embodies everything about false claims of racism. Lest we forget, it was the Colorado team that benefited from the MLB making a change to the location of the All-Star Game from Atlanta because the MLB supposedly found racism in newly passed Georgia election laws its officers hadn’t even read. Now, mere weeks after the midsummer classic, the Colorado baseball team sought to find another example of racism where it did not exist.
Our country has been here before recently and routinely seems to get it wrong. The formula is simple. An outlandish claim of racism is made. Intense and completely fake outrage ensues. An investigation occurs. And it turns out to be a rope for lowering a garage door, or a horribly concocted plan by a D-list actor, or a group of teenagers visiting D.C. on a school trip.
Has anyone realized that for a country so fraught with the horrors of racism, leftists do an awful lot of making it up?
Whether it is Jussie Smollett, Bubba Wallace, or the kids from Covington Catholic, hate crime hoaxes are on the rise. Dr. Wilfred Reilly, political scientist and African American professor at Kentucky State University, wrote about the significant rise in hate crime hoaxes in his book Hate Crime Hoax: How the Left Is Selling a Fake Race War. Reilly has found hundreds of examples of hate crime hoaxes in his research. As the truth emerged from the investigation launched by the Colorado baseball team, it is just the latest in a line of recent claims of racism that left people looking foolish.
Another reason for the change is because the name “Rockies” is obviously at some point going to be declared a sign of either colonialism, white supremacy, white privilege, indigenous genocide, or racism. The Colorado baseball team should take a proactive approach and preemptively switch it to the Colorado Jussie Smolletts to honor the recent, contemporary, yet time-honored tradition of false claims of racism.
Once, baseball was our country’s national pastime. It’s been replaced by making fake claims of racism.
