“The View” host Whoopi Goldberg really does not like New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, and she’s never made a secret of it.
So you’d better believe she had something to say Thursday after the hated-in-his-own-city Democratic politician announced he is running in the 2020 Democratic primary.
“New York City May—,” Goldberg started to say before breaking down in laughter. “Bill de Blasio is running for president,” she finally got out, adding that it is a terrible decision, especially considering how much work he has left to do in his own city.
The host went on to shred the mayor’s announcement video, which featured him ticking off a list of his administration’s supposed accomplishments. Conveniently absent from the list are, of course, the things that are still major problems for New York City, including homelessness and horrible, crumbling public infrastructure.
“Here’s the thing that you didn’t mention: Homelessness is near record highs; congestive pricing will take the minimum wage money that we just gave to people, it’ll take it away from them because they have to pay the congestive pricing,” said Goldberg.
“Public housing is falling apart; you can’t seem to fire anybody; the subways are underserved; the buses are slow. What the hell are you going to do?” she added.
Oddly enough, this put Goldberg in rare agreement with President Trump, who replied to de Blasio’s candidacy by tweeting: “The Dems are getting another beauty to join their group. Bill de Blasio of NYC, considered the worst mayor in the U.S., will supposedly be making an announcement for president today. He is a JOKE, but if you like high taxes & crime, he’s your man. NYC HATES HIM!”
The mayor responded: “NYC has record low crime & record high jobs. We’re investing in working families with free Pre-K & guaranteed health care. #ConDon taking advantage of working families is no joke.”
If dislike of de Blasio can bring Goldberg and Trump together, I’m not optimistic about how Iowans will view him.
