Kristi Noem celebrated her state shuttering its last abortion clinic on Tuesday.

A Planned Parenthood facility in Sioux Falls has closed, leaving no clinics remaining in the Mount Rushmore State as the nation awaits a decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which is expected to overturn Roe v. Wade.

“Abortions have stopped in South Dakota. We have prayed for this day, and now it is here,” Noem tweeted after the announcement.

“Now, we must redouble our focus on taking care of mothers in crisis. Help is available for you. Adoption is an option. You are never alone,” she continued.

Emily Bisek, vice president of strategic communications for the Planned Parenthood North Central States, said while other services, such as birth control, will remain available at the Sioux Falls facility, the abortion clinic would close in anticipation of a statewide ban.

“We can’t in good faith schedule patients for abortions when they would have to go out of state anyway,” she said.

South Dakota is the second state to eliminate all of its abortion clinics after Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt signed a law banning most abortions from the point of conception. In Missouri, there only remains one other clinic performing abortions, and it is not accepting more appointments. In Wisconsin, abortion clinics will not schedule abortions for after the end of the Supreme Court’s late-term in June, according to the New York Times.

In January, Noem announced a pair of bills that would ban abortions once fetal heartbeats were detected and telemedicine abortions. After the leak of the draft Supreme Court opinion last month, Noem vowed to call a special session to impose statewide restrictions on abortion if Roe were overturned.

Bisek referred would-be abortion seekers to the nearby states of Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, and North Dakota, where abortions are still being performed.
