An 11-month-old girl in New York City was struck in the face Wednesday night while in a parked car after a stray bullet hit her, police said.
The New York Police Department said the baby was hit while with her mother around 6:45 p.m. as one man chasing another man fired two shots in the Bronx, with one hitting the child.

The child is in the hospital following the shooting in “critical but stable condition,” according to NYPD Deputy Chief Timothy McCormack.

McCormack said that when police responded to the call, the mother was holding her injured child and they were both escorted to the hospital.
“This is completely unacceptable in our city that an 11-month-old was shot,” McCormack said. “It needs to stop.”
Police released surveillance video footage on Thursday of the man who allegedly fired the shot and described him as “a man in a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt” with “gray sweatpants and black and white sneakers,” according to ABC News.

“It’s very early in the investigation, and the motive is being looked at,” McCormack said Wednesday night.
