An antisemitic watchdog organization has criticized Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for a tweet it says contributed “to the vilification of American Jews.”

Ocasio-Cortez alleged on Monday that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, a group advocating pro-Israel policies, was “shamefully” working for “Republican control of Congress” due to its spending against a Democratic candidate in Pennsylvania.

“The thinly veiled intent behind AOC’s tweet to vilify a Jewish organization is crystal clear and further contributes to the vilification of American Jews,” Liora Rez, the executive director of Stop Antisemitism, told Fox News. “AOC’s intentional isolation of AIPAC and her failure to call out the numerous bipartisan and left-leaning groups working to keep Justice Democrat candidate Summer Lee out of office shows her true colors.”

Stop Antisemitism does not endorse candidates, but it does promote candidates it knows are Jewish allies or makes public its concerns about candidates who have been critical of Jewish people or Israel, the organization told the Washington Examiner.

AIPAC’s United Democracy Project super PAC spent $78,683 on Saturday on direct mail opposing Summer Lee, the Democratic House candidate running against Republican Mike Doyle in Pennsylvania’s 12th District, the report said. AIPAC, which touts its bipartisanship, has pledged to oppose candidates who criticize Israel or whom it views as detrimental to the U.S.-Israel alliance.

Lee has been critical of Israel in the past, posting on social media in May 2021 that the country had committed “undeniable atrocities on a marginalized pop” and that “inhumanities against the Palestinian ppl cannot be tolerated or justified.”

These statements are why Stop Antisemitism believes “anyone that wants to condition aid to a close ally for defending itself against a terror regime hellbent on its destruction needs to be kept as far away from Congress as possible,” the organization said.

AIPAC’s super PAC spent $2.7 million during the primary race to promote Steve Irwin, Lee’s challenger. The money it spent against Lee marked the first time it had ever spent money in an election between a Republican and a Democrat, according to Haaretz.

Stop Antisemitism’s condemnation of Ocasio-Cortez comes a week before the 2022 midterm elections, which will be held on Nov. 8. The district has a partisan voter index of D+8, according to Cook Political Report. There has been little polling in the district.

Stop Antisemitism has also not endorsed Lee Zeldin in New York’s gubernatorial race, but it has called attention to his race against Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) because the organization believes that such races “are crucial for ensuring the safety of the Jewish people in NY, PA, and the U.S. overall.”

The Washington Examiner contacted AIPAC for comment.
