Tuesday night’s full moon was at its closest point to the Earth, shining especially bright as it rose just 23.3 degrees above the horizon.
“The June full moon is the sweetest of the year,” said NASA’s official Twitter account for the Earth’s moon.
“It’s also a supermoon!” NASA noted. “The Moon appears a little bigger and brighter than average because it’s closer to Earth in its elliptical orbit.”

The moon reached its full stage Tuesday. During the month of June, it is also called the Strawberry Moon in a nod to “the relatively short season for harvesting strawberries in the [northeastern United States] region.”
