Santa Claus is one of the top contenders in a crowded field vying for the late Rep. Don Young’s (R-AK) empty House seat.
The special election to fill Young’s seat and become Alaska’s lone representative will be held on Aug. 16.
Young died at 88 on March 18 after serving in the U.S. House of Representatives for 49 years.

Between May 6 and 9, a 19% plurality of Alaska voters told Alaska Survey Research that they planned to vote for Palin, while software executive Nick Begich III, a Republican, received an additional 16%. Following close behind, former Democratic Senate nominee for Alaska Al Gross collected 13%.
In fourth place, 6% were feeling the Christmas spirit and said they would cast their ballot for Claus.

In an April tweet, Claus announced his candidacy, adding that he is “an independent, progressive, democratic socialist, with an affinity for Bernie Sanders, and aim to represent ALL Alaskans :-)}.”
