Former U.S. representative and presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard reacted to FINA’s decision to restrict transgender women from participating in female sports on Monday, calling the move a “good step forward.”
Despite praising the decision, she claimed it did not go far enough. “FINA should follow the fair and safest policy: NO biological men should be allowed to compete against biological women. Period,” Gabbard said in an Instagram post.
She outlined her concerns, explaining that the move will allow “men who ‘transitioned’ ‘before age 12′” to compete. “This may encourage boys to ‘transition’ before they are old enough to make such a dangerous life-altering decision,” she added.

FINA, the international federation recognized by the International Olympic Committee, announced on Sunday that it is launching an “open category” in which transgender swimmers can compete.
However, if transgender athletes complete the transition process before the age of 12, the swimmers will be welcome in the female category.
In May, Gabbard criticized President Joe Biden, whom she competed against for the Democratic nomination ahead of the 2020 election, saying he simply carries out former President Barack Obama’s wishes.
“Biden is just a front man,” she wrote after the president announced the Disinformation Governance Board under the Department of Homeland Security. “Obama, April 21: social media censors ‘don’t go far enough,’ so the government needs to step in to do the job. Six days later, Homeland Security rolls out the ‘Ministry of Truth’ (aka Disinformation Governance Board).”

The board was soon paused just a few weeks after being announced.
