At least six people were killed and hundreds injured when the stands collapsed during a bullfight in Colombia on Sunday.
The collapse happened in the city of El Espinal during a festival in which the public is allowed to engage the bulls, ride, and taunt them, according to a report. The bull was able to escape the fighting plaza after the collapse and caused panic in the streets, according to local media.
“I hope that all the people affected by the collapse of the Plaza de El Espinal can come out of their wounds unscathed. This had already happened before in Sincelejo. I ask the mayors not to authorize more shows with the death of people or animals,” Colombian President-elect Gustavo Petro said on Twitter Sunday.
Aerial footage posted on social media by Petro and others showed parts of the wood and bamboo structure toppling during the bullfight, sending spectators forward into the ring. Some were buried in the debris. In the video, the bull can be seen approaching the victims of the collapse, while some try to distract the animal with wooden boards that once formed the arena.

A 1-year old is among the dead, and 322 people were transported to hospitals, according to Tolima province Health Secretary Martha Palacios.
Authorities did not immediately say what caused the collapse. No one remains trapped in the wreckage, according to local officials.
The mayor of El Espinal said that 800 people were seated in the sections that collapsed.
