The headlines coming out of the Super Tuesday primaries have it right. Former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden will be, barring cataclysmic changes, the Republican and Democratic nominees for president in 2024. Some 29% in Republican contests and 14% in Democratic contests voted for other candidates or none.

With Nikki Haley’s withdrawal, there will be no more significantly contested primaries or caucuses. This is the earliest both parties’ races have been over since something like the current primary-dominated system was put in place in 1972.
