Poll: Millennials don’t want to spend their own money to fight climate change

Millennials are passionate about combating climate change. Some have even compared it to the Silent Generation’s fight against Nazism, however, our grandparents risked life and limb to fight Hitler. With that being said, Gen-Y isn’t willing to spend as much as they do on an iPhone — or even avocado toast — to fight global warming.

A survey by The Daily Wire/Whatsgoodly released on Monday found that 60 percent of millennials were willing to spend $10 or less to help fight climate change.

While most were willing to give almost nothing to combat the existential crisis of our time, just nine percent were okay with spending $1,000 or more.

Younger millennials who were still in high school and probably don’t have much money were the ones most willing to spend. About 10 percent of 15-17-year-olds were willing to spend a $1,000 or more to fight climate change, while only seven percent of 31-to-34-year-olds felt the same way.

Politically there wasn’t a large difference between millennials who supported Trump versus those who supported Clinton. Very few of either were willing to spend their own money to fight climate change.

More than 85 percent of Trump-voting millennials said they were willing to just spend $10 or less while 61 percent of Gary Johnson voters and 45 percent of Clinton voters felt the same way. Bernie Bros were the most willing to spend money on fighting climate change, but just 13 percent said they would spend $1,000 or more.

Race also didn’t divide people the way that it usually does. A plurality or majority of every race, 72 percent of black millennials, 60 percent of whites, 58 percent of Latinos, and 44 percent of Asians said they would spend $10 or less.

So when you hear millennials at events like the March for Science chant that we need to spend more funds to combat climate change, they don’t mean their own money.
