The hosts of ABC’s “The View” got into a bit of a squabble Tuesday over conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer’s recent assertion that President Obama is a narcissist.
Whoopi Goldberg kicked off the conversation about Krauthammer’s claims, only to provoke Rosie O’Donnell to ask cluelessly, “Who is that guy? I’ve never heard of him.”
“Charles Krauthammer is a god in our world,” Nicolle Wallace explained to O’Donnell. “He is a very well-respected and thoughtful columnist. He also appears on television, but before that he was a psychiatrist. So, he was actually offering a semi-expert opinion.”
Wallace went on to allege that Obama’s apparent narcissism is part of the reason he hasn’t been able to accomplish much in Washington. She even compared him to Vice President Joe Biden, who she characterized as more of a people person.
“Joe Biden, for example, the vice president, has much better relationships not just with Republicans but with Democrats in Congress,” detailed Wallace. “The narcissism is tied to [Obama’s] inability to get much done. So, that’s why I thought it was interesting. Charles Krauthammer is a thoughtful guy. He’s not a bomb thrower. He’s one of the intellectual voices on our side.”
She later suggested that Biden gets along with Congress because he “genuinely loves people.” When O’Donnell asked if she was implying that Obama doesn’t love people, Wallace answered in the affirmative.
“Oh, wow,” O’Donnell gasped.
“That’s bull crap,” exclaimed Rosie Perez. “You are so wrong. I met him when he was a senator. He was very personable.”
Goldberg then offered her own opinion, contending that Obama doesn’t have a problem with people but one with Congress. She sounded a lot like the president himself, who has consistently blamed Congress for the gridlock in Washington.
