John Oliver is taking a stand against April Fools’ Day.

“April Fools’ Day is to comedy as St. Patrick’s Day is to Irish culture. That is to say it is a mockery of the very concept that usually ends in a fist fight,” Oliver said.

Oliver presented his extremely well-thought-out reasoning against the holiday in a web exclusive Sunday night. While his tone was obviously joking, there was definitely some truth behind his words.

“Anyone who claims to be excited for April Fools’ Day is probably a sociopath,” Oliver said. “Because what they are really saying is, ‘I cannot wait to hurt the people close to me. I can’t wait!'”

Oliver’s argument is solid and if you agree with him, you can even take his “No-Prank Pledge.” We highly encourage you to partake.
