Academy Award-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson will be honored for her work in entertainment at Charter Day, which celebrates the birth of Howard University through a charter enacted by the United States Congress.
Established on March 2, 1867, Charter Day is to be celebrated on March 11 with Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed as the keynote speaker. Henson is a native of D.C., graduating from the Howard University School of Fine Arts with a degree in Theater Arts. Taraji P. Henson is a descendant of Mathew Henson, discoverer of the North Pole, but she found her own talent singing and acting, playing roles in movies such as “Baby Boy,” “Hustle and Flow,” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”
