In Iowa elementary schools, “snitches get stitches” is not a well-respected social code.
A Ben Carson visit in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Thursday started with a self-deprecating joke and ended with one student outed as his class’s “worst student,” according to The Washington Post.
“As a fifth-grade student, I was a horrible student,” Carson said. “Anybody here in fifth grade? Who’s the worst student?”
According to CBS News [VIDEO], “about a dozen students” pointed to a classmate, and the room erupted in laughter.
“Let me tell you. If you had asked that question in my classroom, there would’ve been no doubt about who it was,” Carson said, reflecting on his poor grades as a child.
The singled-out student isn’t likely to forget Carson’s visit, but his status as a future supporter is probably weak. Getting embarrassed by a candidate for the Republican nomination isn’t something he’ll likely forget. Neither will his classmates.
