On Saturday, a comedian at a Harris–Walz rally made a joke about Mexican people being thieves, drawing laughter from throngs of Harris-Walz supporters. Another joke followed that, once again, ridiculed Latinos community, this time for not being able to “split a check at a restaurant.” Again, the remark drew nothing but laughter from the crowd.
There was no outrage. There weren’t any calls of condemnation. There weren’t any requests to denounce the jokester. There weren’t any accusations of racism. There were just people laughing at a joke a comedian made that used racist tropes about an ethnic group. Democrats find racial and ethnic humor just so long as the person telling the jokes is also a Democrat or at least performing in a Democrat-friendly environment.
