Kingsley gives Sheen advice from Washington

Renowned actor Sir Ben Kingsley seems a bit too highbrow to be paying close attention to the current meltdown of actor Charlie Sheen, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have words of wisdom for the struggling TV star.

“We all have our demons, we all struggle with them,” Kingsley said. “I have not watched Mr. Sheen’s struggle, to me, it’s like looking through a peephole, it’s too personal, too private,” he said, wishing Sheen well. He also dished out advice to all of those in his profession. “And my only theory is that if a young actor is trained in theater and if a young actor fully understands his or her role as a story teller in society rather than a celebrity, they’d be much more grounded,” he explained. “I think that a lot lies in delusion, and life not being able to live up to the expectations that the delusions tell you you ought to live up to.”

Kingsley phoned in from Washington and talked with Amy Holmes on Talk Radio Networks’s “America’s Morning News” program with John McCaslin on Tuesday. Kingsley is in town to discuss roles he’s played that dealt with the holocaust at an evening event at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
