Adirondack town celebrates Theodore Roosevelt link

NEWCOMB, N.Y. (AP) — An Adirondack town is celebrating its link to former President Theodore Roosevelt.

Newcomb this weekend is holding its annual Teddy Roosevelt Celebration, complete with a Roosevelt impersonator, wagon tours and fireworks

Roosevelt spent time in the Adirondacks and at Newcomb in particular.

In September 1901, Vice President Roosevelt was vacationing in Newcomb when President McKinley was shot in Buffalo. Roosevelt was urgently leaving the area when McKinley died.
