Actor Jamie Foxx is campaigning for Kamala Harris, who is running for Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer’s soon-to-be-vacant California seat.
Foxx sent out a fundraising email Wednesday asking Californians to help ensure Harris replaces Boxer, who announced earlier this year that she would not run for re-election in 2016.
“That’s my friend Kamala,” Foxx wrote, according to The Hill. “I’ve been supporting her for years — ever since she was San Francisco district attorney, running for attorney general of California.
“I joined team Kamala early on because I knew then what I still know to this day,” Foxx continued. “She’s smart, has integrity and is committed to making Californians’ lives better. If we’re serious about having a senator who’s going to fight for us, we’ve got to reach into our pockets and make it rain for this campaign.”
The “Django Unchained” star pointed to Harris’ legal background as evidence that she has the experience necessary to thrive in the Senate.
“We want a senator who’s going to stand up for all of us — one who’s got experience fighting for safer communities, a healthier environment and more opportunities for every hardworking family,” Foxx wrote.
Harris has other celebrity backers, including singer John Legend, actor Sean Penn, comedian Seth MacFarlane and Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer of Facebook.
