Talk show host Jon Stewart poked fun at President Donald Trump’s Cabinet meetings for being “so over the top.”
Trump hosted his third Cabinet meeting on April 10 after he rolled back tariffs against 83 countries for 90 days. Cabinet members praised Trump for the move, and Stewart played a compilation of their compliments.
“When I watch those Cabinet meetings, I’m actually thinking, are they making fun of him? It’s so over the top,” Stewart said on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show Monday. “It’s just so f***ing weird.”
Then the late-night talk show host, who has long criticized Trump as hosts did before him, tried to make the case that the latest Cabinet meeting is an example of an authoritarian regime.
“The key to the authoritarian regime is the suspension of the normal processes by which you understand the world, the matter by which data and your experiences paint a cohesive grounded picture of reality,” Stewart said. “The calling card of an authoritarian regime is that you must suspend that reality, that rationality, and then you test people by pushing the limits of that absurdity.”

Trump’s first Cabinet meeting included senior adviser Elon Musk, who offered a report on the new Department of Government Efficiency. Every department has implemented its own DOGE cuts, canceling contracts and laying off employees.
It remains to be seen when the Cabinet will convene next in a televised meeting.
