110: The number of pounds collectively lost by the kitchen staff at the White House since July 2010 — inspired by first ladyMichelle Obama’s personal eating and exercising habits — according to a story from the Associated Press. The biggest losers in the story included Assistant Pastry Chef Susie Morrison, Executive Chef Cristeta Comerford, Assistant ChefAdam Collick and Assistant White House Curator Lydia Tedrick — all of whom blamed bad eating habits and long hours in the White House kitchen for their expanding waistlines.
Morrison may have had one of the worst struggles, being surrounded by yummy pastries, cookies and pies — and she admitted she’d been hiding extra pounds before Obama kicked off her healthy eating initiative and her Let’s Move! campaign to fight childhood obesity. It was then that Morrison started practicing what she and Obama were preaching – snacking on fruit instead of pastry scraps, and running and cycling — shedding 30 pounds in the process. Comerford managed to lose 15 pounds by making similar changes to her diet and cutting down on her caffeine intake, and Collick lost 30 pounds by cutting out empty calories and sugary coffee drinks, limiting the number of desserts he eats during the week and exercising for an hour every day. Tedrick lost the most weight, shedding 35 pounds by joining Weight Watchers and exercising with her husband.
