It is the first week of June, and “Pride” is in full swing. No longer is the optimal family model, one man and one woman, married, accepted as fact, or even as time-tested.
As a result, people rarely make children a primary component of ethical concerns. This is so even in feigned family-centered debates over universal childcare or in vitro fertilization. Nor are children protected from undue ideological indoctrination in schools and in society at large. The human child is one of the most complex and most impressionable life forms, and yet we seem to deal with it the most carelessly.
