When a Dallas hardware store made former President Bush a tongue-in-cheek job offer to work there as a greeter, it all seemed like a clever and highly unlikely publicity stunt.
Until Bush showed up.
The Dallas Morning News reports the former president strolled into Elliott’s Hardware on Saturday with a retinue of Secret Service, and “jokingly inquired about the position.”
Bush, sporting a jacket with the presidential seal, posed for photos and signed autographs, the paper reported. He also bought a flashlight and some batteries.
“Everyone just started calling people on their cellphones,” Andrea Bond, Elliott’s marketing staffer told the paper. “It was just a amazing.”
Bush, who is keeping the ranch in Crawford, recently bought a house in Dallas’ Preston Hollow neighborhood.
