University of Maryland police charged six students with starting fires and destroying property during the celebration of the school’s victory against Duke.
Police said security camera videos and photos posted online helped them identify the suspects. Charged were John Celmer, 22, John Winters, 19, Joseph Margot, 20, Omar Aly, 20, Alex Spina, 19, and Joseph McQuillen, 22. Twenty-eight people were arrested that night.
The charges come a month after five Prince George’s County police officers were suspended after videos surfaced showing police in riot gear beating a student. Prosecutors dropped the charges against the student, Jack McKenna,
The beating has spurred an investigation by the FBI.
