President Trump met with a group of evangelical women at his Washington, D.C., hotel on Wednesday night, including spiritual adviser Paula White and others.
The event was not on the president’s schedule and has not been disclosed by the White House, but, in post by an attendee to Instagram Wednesday evening, Trump can be seen addressing a room from behind a Trump-branded lectern.
The caption to the post reads in part: “Tonight I was in a room with the POTUS @realdonaldtrump and precious @paulamichellewhite sat at our table. I’m just not even sure what to say….but what I can say is ONLY JESUS and I am so so PROUD to BE AN AMERICAN. I always have been but this is next level and my freedoms as a ministry leader are being protected because this man is not afraid. We prayed tonight for @realdonaldtrump.
The post included a #prolife hashtag and another that read #vote.
The pictures were first reported by 1100 Pennsylvania, which cites this as the first occasion the president has addressed a crowd from behind a company-branded lectern since taking office.
Trump’s attendance at a private America First Action event at the hotel the same evening was later disclosed. A spokesperson said the posted photos were not from their event.
Evangelical Christians supported Trump’s candidacy by a wide margin in 2016, and the campaign seeks a similar turnout in November.
In January, the campaign launched the Evangelicals for Trump movement in support of his reelection at a Miami rally.
