A search-and-rescue effort is underway Wednesday after a Marine pilot ejected from an F/A-18 Hornet off Japan, according to the Marine Corps.
The plane crashed around 6:40 p.m. local time about 120 miles southeast of Iwakuni while conducting scheduled training.

The plane was assigned to 1st Marine Aircraft Wing in Okinawa. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
This is the sixth Marine Hornet crash this year, according to the Naval Safety Center. Four Marine Hornets have crashed since Oct. 25.
