Trump: Arnold Schwarzenegger was ‘fired’ from ‘Celebrity Apprentice’

President Trump disputed a claim by actor Arnold Schwarzenegger that is leaving his role as the star of NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice” after one season.

“Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t voluntarily leaving the Apprentice, he was fired by his bad (pathetic) ratings, not by me. Sad end to great show,” Trump tweeted Saturday morning.


Schwarzenegger later fired back at Trump in a tweet of his own: “You should think about hiring a new joke writer and a fact checker.”


Schwarzenegger told the website EmpireOnline in a story published Friday that he is leaving the show because of Trump’s continued association with it.

“It’s not about the show,” Schwarzenegger said. “Because everyone I ran into came up to me and said ‘I love the show … but I turned it off because as soon as I read Trump’s name I’m outta there!’

He added: “When people found out that Trump was still involved as executive producer and was still receiving money from the show, then half the people [started] boycotting it.”

Trump is still credited as an executive producer of the show, though he claims to have no further dealings with it.

The president’s tweet about Schwarzenegger came an hour after accusing former President Barack Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower in New York City, where much of the show takes place.
