The body pulled from a Fort Washington well has been identified as Alexandria activist Lenwood “Lenny” Harris, according to Prince George’s County Police.
The autopsy showed that Harris, 53, was murdered, said spokeswoman Julie Parker.
Harris went missing in September and Alexandria Police said at the time that they believed he was in danger, although they did not elaborate. Prince George’s County Police and Alexandria Police are holding a press briefing at 10:30 a.m. Monday.
Authorities began looking for Harris, an advocate for residents of public housing in Alexandria, after he failed to show up for a presentation at the Alexandria Adult Detention Center and his cell phone was discovered on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.
Police released a photo of a man who used Harris’s credit card at an ATM. Harris’s car was found in Prince George’s County.
The man who used his credit card, described by police as a “person of interest” in the case, is a black man who has a moustache and a small goatee. The man has a muscular build and has tattoos on his right and left forearms.
