PHILADELPHIA — California Gov. Jerry Brown ripped Donald Trump for claiming climate change does not exist during his speech before the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday.
“Trump says global warming is a hoax. I say Trump is a fraud. Trump says there’s no drought in California. I say Trump lies,” Brown said. “Rarely in American history have two parties diverged so profoundly. Even the know-nothing, anti-immigrant party of the 1850s did not stray this far into sheer ignorance and dark fantasy as have the Republicans and their leader Donald Trump.”
The Golden State’s governor said Trump was all talk, while Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton was focused on action.
“From her first day in office, President Hillary Clinton will do what’s needed to combat climate change and lead the clean energy revolution, and yes we do need a revolution and we’re going to get one,” Brown said. “What America needs today are not deniers, but leaders. Not division, but common purpose. Not bombast, but bold action. That’s why we need Hillary.”
On Tuesday, Brown, who ran against former President Clinton in 1992, said the 2016 election looked “very uncertain” and reportedly suggested polling presented cause for her to be concerned. His speech on Wednesday appeared aimed at drawing out the contrast between Clinton and Trump to make the choice clearer for fence-sitters deciding between the two.
