Rep. Ilhan Omar took aim at President Trump over his statement that he would put more sanctions on Iran for its missile strikes on U.S. military sites.
“This makes no sense. Sanctions are economic warfare,” the Minnesota Democrat said Wednesday on Twitter. “They have already caused medical shortages and countless deaths in Iran. You cannot claim to want deescalation and then announce new sanctions with no clear goal. This is not a measured response!”

The 38-year-old freshman congresswoman has committed to “step in and stop” Trump after a U.S. airstrike killed Iranian terrorist Qassem Soleimani last week. Omar accused the president of wanting war as a distraction against impeachment.
On Tuesday, the congresswoman demanded that Trump divest from his own company so that Iran could not target his assets and his hotels. “Iran could threaten Trump hotels *worldwide* and he could provoke war over the loss of revenue from skittish guests,” she claimed.
Her latest comments follow Iranian airstrikes Tuesday on U.S. military bases. No Americans were killed, but Trump said Wednesday that the U.S. would respond with sanctions on Iran.
