Family believes Md. man missing since 1993 is dead

A 25-year-old Maryland man was playing pool with friends on a spring evening. Authorities say Robert John Bornos wasn’t feeling well, and stepped outside to get some air. That was April 19, 1993, and no one has seen or heard from Bornos since that night.

Bornos was at the Choptank Inn in Easton, where he was last seen in the parking lot.

His truck was found about seven miles away a week later, but Bornos’ disappearance has remained a mystery. His mother, Linda Blizzard, said she doesn’t think he is alive.

“I think he would have contacted us somehow,” Blizzard told The Washington Examiner on Tuesday. She said Bornos, whose nickname was “Link,” was close to his parents and sister.

“You can’t imagine getting up every day and saying, ‘I hope Link comes home,’ ” she said.

Bornos had recently gotten married, but often fought with his wife, and police had been called to respond to fights, according to Blizzard.

His disappearance was briefly connected with a North Carolina murder case. A man was accused of shooting an acquaintance and placing the victim’s body in a barrel on a Maryland farm in 1994. The barrel was found about a mile from Blizzard’s home, the Greensboro News and Record reported during Charles C. Cintron’s 1997 trial, and some initially thought the body was Bornos.

But DNA and photographs showed that the victim wasn’t him.

The night he disappeared, Bornos was wearing jeans, a white T-shirt featuring the music group the Who and white and orange Nike tennis shoes, according to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

Bornos is described as white, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 165 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. Bornos has a tattoo of a heart on his left arm and his right ear is pierced.

Anyone with information about his disappearance is asked to call the Maryland State Police Easton barrack at 410-822-3101. Blizzard said she wants someone to come forward so her family can get closure.

“I know there’s somebody out there who knows something,” she said.
