A member of the Ukrainian parliament called the Russian invasion the start of World War III, whether U.S. forces join or not.
“The World War III already started. If somebody doesn’t see it, it’s their problem,” member of parliament Alexey Goncharenko said Thursday.
“It’s war, not against Ukraine, but against the whole free world.”
Goncharenko had words for Russian President Vladimir Putin and the convoy of troops headed toward Ukraine’s capital city of Kyiv. “We will meet [Putin] there and there will be a hell for them, I assure you,” he said.

Ukrainian forces have so far stalled the Russian convoy, according to the Pentagon.
President Joe Biden committed not to send U.S. forces into Ukraine during Tuesday’s State of the Union address, despite sending roughly $1 billion in aid in recent months. The president also asked for an additional $10 billion in aid for Ukraine on Thursday. Goncharenko expressed his approval of Biden’s strategy.

“We are not asking for boots on the ground, but give us possibilities,” the Ukrainian lawmaker said.
Goncharenko did call for more sanctions, however, including a ban on Russian gas and oil, a no-fly zone, and a “humanitarian air corridor” to help Ukrainians get out of war zones.
