Now Democrats know what it’s like to have immigrants used as props against them

Why is it so bad that President Trump just helped swear in five new immigrants as American citizens?

He did it Tuesday on the second night of the Republican National Convention, spurring New York Times liberal Frank Bruni to say that the president had “reduced” the immigrants “to re-election props.”

Huh. I don’t recall Bruni saying that about the 1 million illegal immigrants Barack Obama shielded from deportation under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy just ahead of his own reelection. Obama executed that shocking power display by making a statement in the Rose Garden at the White House before dashing away without taking any questions from reporters.

No one doubts that Obama did that to help his reelection efforts. It probably helped. And no one should doubt that Trump did what he did at the convention for the same reason.

What about when the 2016 Democratic convention featured a Pakistani couple as prime-time speakers? That was supposed to be nothing but a display in virtue. Khizr Khan remains a spokesman for the party, sending out fundraising email blasts for the Democratic National Committee.

Now liberals know how it feels.

They’re not upset out of any real sense of indignance. They’re upset because Trump is playing their same game.
