Maryland state police closed a two-mile stretch of road to investigate a suspicious package near Andrews Air Force Base.
The package was found on Branch Avenue at Coventry Way in Clinton by a state highway worker around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. The package had a cell phone attached to it, police said.
Firefighters said the device was made to look like an improvised explosive device. Bomb squad members used a remote device to detonate the package. Authorities believe the package was not a threat.
A bomb unit is examining the remains of the package, and police closed Route 5 between Woodyard Road and Allentown Road.
