Officer injured in van attack during illegal immigration enforcement operation in Charlotte

A law enforcement officer was injured during an illegal immigration enforcement operation in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Sunday.

A suspect drove a van at law enforcement officers while they were conducting an operation in Charlotte’s University City section, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Then, while engaged in a high-speed chase in an attempt to evade law enforcement personnel, the suspect allegedly weaponized his van and rammed it at law enforcement officials who were in pursuit.

DHS posted about the incident on X on Sunday afternoon, issuing a notification about the officer who was injured during the altercation.

“This afternoon in Charlotte near University City, a United States citizen weaponized his vehicle, driving a large van at law enforcement while they were conducting an operation,” read the post by DHS. “He immediately fled the scene, starting a dangerous high-speed chase through a densely populated area.”

“During the chase, he attempted to ram into law enforcement vehicles — posing a serious public safety threat,” noted the post on X. “As agents were boxing him in — the driver proceeded to ram law enforcement vehicles in an attempt to escape.”

“One law enforcement officer was injured,” read the social media update.

The suspect was eventually arrested by law enforcement officials who pursued him. Later, during a search of the suspect’s vehicle, a firearm was discovered and retrieved, according to DHS officials. The suspect involved had previous arrests for multiple charges, including “resisting law enforcement, public disturbance, and intoxication/disruptive conduct.”

The incident comes shortly after DHS began illegal immigration enforcement in Charlotte, known as “Operation Charlotte’s Web.”

“This DHS operation will target the criminal illegal aliens who flocked to the Tar Heel State because they knew sanctuary politicians would protect them and allow them to roam free on American streets,” read a press release issued by DHS. “Nearly 1,400 detainers across North Carolina have not been honored—releasing criminal illegal aliens into North Carolina’s neighborhoods.”

WHAT TO EXPECT AS BORDER PATROL ARRIVES IN CHARLOTTE: ‘THEY’RE HERE’

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said Operation Charlotte’s Web was about ensuring the safety of citizens and protecting them from criminal illegal immigrants.

“Americans should be able to live without fear of violent criminal illegal aliens hurting them, their families, or their neighbors,” said McLaughlin. “We are surging DHS law enforcement to Charlotte to ensure Americans are safe and public safety threats are removed. There have been too many victims of criminal illegal aliens. President Trump and Secretary Noem will step up to protect Americans when sanctuary politicians won’t.”
