An arrest warrant has been issued for the man suspected of abducting a Virginia girl.
An Amber Alert was issued earlier this week for 12-year-old Brittany Mae Smith of Roanoke County. Police are looking for Jeffrey Scott Easley, who lived with Brittany and her mother, in connection with her disappearance and have an issued a warrant for his arrest.
Brittany’s mother, Tina Smith, was found dead in their home Monday morning. Her death is being investigated as a possible homicide.
Brittany and Easley were last seen Friday at a Walmart in Salem, Va.
Ray Lavinder, Roanoke County police chief, said in a statement Wednesday that he believed someone was hiding them.
“I am confident that somebody out there knows where these two are,” Lavinder said. “They need food. The temperatures have been in the teens at night. Helping or hiding Jeff Easley is a crime.”
