Perry spox: Northeast Republicans stick together

That’s the way it works in this business sometimes,” Perry campaign communications Mark Sullivan said on Fox News earlier this afternoon, about the news that Chris Christie would endorse Mitt Romney this afternoon. “Northeast Republicans are sticking together in this case.”

When asked about tonight’s debate, Sullivan replied that Perry was spending his time meeting voters on the trail, suggesting that the debate was only a “stepping stone” to the primary election.

Sullivan added that a large portion of the conservative electorate was directly opposed to Romney getting the nomination.

When asked about Herman Cain’s rise in popularity, Sullivan mentioned the “American Idol feel” in the “fluid” GOP electorate and suggested that Perry was in for the long haul.

The campaign sent out an offical response after Sullivan’s remarks on Fox:

Gov. Perry has the utmost respect for Gov. Christie and looks forward to his help unseating President Obama next year.  Until then, Gov. Perry will continue traveling the country talking about job creation and getting America working again.  Rick Perry is the only candidate with a proven record of job creation, restraining spending, and lowering taxes to encourage strong economic growth and opportunity.
