Playing their third game in nine days tonight, D.C. United has made a couple minor tweaks to the lineup that handled Seattle on Wednesday, with Stephen King replacing Clyde Simms in the midfield and Joseph Ngwenya taking Josh Wolff’s spot at forward.
United head coach Ben Olsen singled out King for a solid ten minutes as a substitute against the Sounders, but the moves are more about resting Simms and Wolff.
Olsen also decided to keep intact the starting back line that he used three days ago, with Perry Kitchen a and Daniel Woolard at right and left back, respectively, and a partnership of Ethan White and Dejan Jakovic in the middle. Is this a long-term solution? Tonight will be a good measuring stick.
The full complement of starters: Hamid, Kitchen, White, Jakovic, Woolard, Najar, King, McCarty, Pontius, Davies, Ngwenya.
We’ve talked about this at length, but this game is all about Dax McCarty in his first game against his old club. One member of that club that wasn’t McCarty’s teammate, former D.C. midfielder Andrew Jacobson, who’s now with his third MLS club since starting his pro career in France and is making his fifth straight start. Former Maryland goalkeeper Chris Seitz is now the Dallas’s backup netminder.
