Next in the pipeline: “A Green Bank”?

The Center for American Progress can fairly be considered a sister organization to the Obama White House. The group has never criticized Obama since he has taken office (to my knowledge, please correct me if I’m wrong), and its messaging seems to be very well harmonized with the White House’s messaging. So, when CAP president John Podesta unrolls a novel idea, it makes sense to pay attention.

Yesterday, Podesta and CAP rolled out the idea of a “Green Bank.” In short, it would be an independent government agency whose sole role would be to finance clean energy or other green-type investments. The executive summary on CAP’s website points out that all the subsidies for clean technology are subject to congressional reauthorization, and thus congressional politics (such as in the odd case of chicken-fat diesel).

Again, corporations that can pitch their product as green have no shortage of  government subsidies to choose from today, but considering CAP’s connections, don’t be surprised to see the Obama administration roll out something a “Green Bank” soon.
