Three victory-starved foreign golfers, all from different continents, had a chance to win the Players Championship on Sunday. If there was any doubt that South African Tim Clark was the most deserving, he removed it with a spectacular 5-under 67, the best score of the day.
Winning for the first time after 205 PGA Tour starts, 39 top-10s and eight runners-up, Clark was an appropriate champion at TPC Sawgrass, a layout suited for his precision game.

Runner-up Robert Allenby of Australia missed 15-foot putts at No. 16 and No. 17 that could have forced a playoff. Allenby was seeking his first PGA title since 2001, a drought that has included 51 top-10s.
Third-round leader Lee Westwood had another final-round fade. The major-less Brit hasn’t won in America since 1998.
In winning, Clark removed his distinction as the best player never to win on the tour.
