President Obama has joined the ranks of Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna in going nom nom for Nando’s Peri-Peri, the international chicken chain that started in South Africa.
Obama and his entourage of 150 people ate Nando’s chicken over the weekend, during a visit to Cape Town, South Africa, a Nando’s rep tells Yeas & Nays. Later the president gave the restaurant a special shout-out in his speech to students at the University of Cape Town. “In America we see the reach of your culture,” Obama began. “We’ve got the Nando’s just a couple of blocks from the White House,” he pointed out.
He also gave South Africa a hat tip for inventing the Vuvuzela, before quickly reconsidering. “I’m not sure that’s like the greatest gift that South Africa ever gave,” he laughed.
