A 43-year-old Reston man was arrested in New Jersey, and authorities said they found his motel room loaded with weapons and munitions.
Police were called because Lloyd R. Woodson was said to be acting suspiciously in a Quick Check convenience store in Branchburg early Monday. Somerset County Prosecutor Wayne Forrest said Woodson had a semiautomatic assault rifle hidden underneath his jacket and was wearing a bulletproof vest.
Special Agent Bryan Travers said police called in the FBI, and a search of Woodson’s motel room uncovered a small arsenal: rifles, a grenade launcher and a night vision scope, as well as a map of the U.S. Army’s Fort Drum base in update New York.
Woodson was being held Tuesday on $75,000 bail and is facing charges including unlawful possession of weapons, possession of prohibited weapons and resisting arrest.
The FBI said it has no information on Woodson belonging to any terrorist organization. — Hristina Ninova
