MALIBU, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say four people have been rescued from a burning boat off Malibu.
Coast Guard spokesman Michael Turanitza says someone aboard the 40-foot boat Dukella made a mayday call shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday after the vessel caught fire about two miles south of Paradise Cove.
He said a joint rescue involving the Coast Guard and Los Angeles County lifeguards was launched, but another boat that was about a half mile from the burning boat got to the scene first. The three adults and one child were pulled from a life raft onto the boat.
No injuries were reported.
Turanitza said Dukella was fully engulfed in flames and sank down 200 feet of water.
