Iranian officials are hardening their messaging after rising death toll numbers boosted criticism of the regime.

“That’s why the demonstrations turned violent and bloody, to give an excuse to the American president to intervene,” Foreign minister Abbas Araghchi told diplomats in Tehran Monday.
