Sen. Josh Hawley sparred with former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe over politically charged text messages sent by McCabe during the Russia collusion investigation into then-presidential candidate Donald Trump.
“Yeah, very convenient,” the Missouri Republican told McCabe after McCabe was unable to recall the texts he sent. The exchange came during McCabe’s online testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.
McCabe then attempted to interrupt Hawley and said he had not been able to view the text messages that Hawley was referring to. The senator at one point told McCabe, “I’m not done talking.”
Hawley described McCabe’s “memory lapses” during the hearing as “extraordinary.”

McCabe was also grilled by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, a Republican, who pressed the former deputy director on whether or not former FBI Director James Comey approved the decision to release Clinton Foundation investigation details to the press.
McCabe argued that Cruz’s “characterization of a leak” was “not accurate.”

Earlier in the day, President Trump urged Republicans on the committee to “fight for justice” during the hearing.
Republicans, don’t let Andrew McCabe continue to get away with totally criminal activity. What he did should never be allowed to happen to our Country again. FIGHT FOR JUSTICE!
