Kudos: Howard County Police Chief William McMahon

William McMahon, Chief of the Howard County Police Department, is participating in a National Law Enforcement Leadership Institute on Violence Against Women next week in Atlanta.

He is expected to explore innovative approaches for investigating domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking. Under McMahon’s leadership in Howard, the department created its first domestic violence unit that investigates and prosecutes domestic violence cases by helping victims, arresting repeat offenders and training patrol officers who often are the first responders to domestic violence incidents.

“This is a great opportunity to learn more about best practices around the country related to domestic violence and to talk about the successes we have seen over the last few years in Howard County,” said the chief, an Ellicott City resident.
