D.C. Tech Council President Penny Pickett is expected to make several key announcements about activities for the upcoming year at the organization’s annual meeting Wednesday morning.
The organization, which represents about 200 area technology companies, plans to partner with the Women’s High Tech Coalition in 2007 to host a reception for female members of Congress in March. The partnership is part of an overall effort to better connect technology companies with policy-makers, Pickett said.
Inaddition, D.C. Tech will work with the District government in 2007 to bring the city’s libraries up-to-date. They will also organize a “boot camp” for startup tech companies looking for federal contracting opportunities.
DCTC also expects to continue working with other local technology councils in the region.
While D.C. Tech is responsible for marketing the District as a business-friendly city for technology companies, Pickett said the organization focuses on benefiting the entire region.
For example, earlier this month D.C. Tech sponsored a venture capital fair with 13 other local technology organizations — although the city often struggles to keep up with Fairfax and other suburbs in tech-sector job growth.
