House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has struggled to break through as a national political figure despite an increasingly aggressive effort to put himself at the center of the Democratic Party’s fight against President Donald Trump and Republicans.

A recent CNN poll found that 30% of Americans have never heard of Jeffries, leaving the top House Democrat less well known than Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA). Among people who do know him, just 16% have a favorable opinion of Jeffries, compared with 32% who view him unfavorably.
