The National Republican Senatorial Committee has started running new ads attacking Midwestern Democrats whose seats come open in 2018, and are focusing on their opposition to Judge Neil Gorsuch’s Supreme Court nomination.
The NRSC marked Indiana Sen. Joe Donnelly and Wisconsin Sen. Tammy Baldwin as top targets and began running new ads this weekend claiming Democrats are “playing politics” with President Trump’s Supreme Court pick.
“They’re playing politics, threatening to deny a vote to Judge Neil Gorsuch,” a narrator says in one of the ads. “Tell Democrats the election is over, the people decided, vote yes on Judge Gorsuch.”
NRSC’s ads will air alongside ads from the Judicial Crisis Network and other outside conservative groups targeting Democratic senators from predominantly red states up for re-election in 2018.
Gorsuch is slated to meet a host of Democratic senators this week as his confirmation hearings approach, including Sens. Jon Tester of Montana and Dianne Feinstein of California on Monday and Sens. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Claire McCaskill of Missouri, and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut on Wednesday.
